What Are The Differences Between Delta 8 vs CBD?

What Is The Difference Between Delta 8 vs CBD?

Over the last several years there have been huge waves in the cannabis industry. With this, more people are becoming familiar with hemp cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. One question we get a lot from our customers is, “What is the difference between Delta 8 Vs CBD?” Delta 8 THC is relatively new to the market so this may be the first time you are hearing about it. However, both are 100% hemp-derived which makes them legal under the Hemp laws. Let’s take a close look at both of these cannabinoids so you get the best understanding of their differences and similarities.

What Is Delta-8 THC?

Delta 8 THC is closely related to Delta 9 THC, which is the psychoactive component of marijuana. While Delta 8 does bear some psychoactive properties, it is much milder than Delta 9. Both forms of THC are found in marijuana and hemp. However, the form of Delta 8 we produce is 100% hemp-derived.

Delta 8 occurs in a small amount but can be produced through advanced extraction methods. While Delta 8 and Delta 9 only sit one atom apart they are vastly different when it comes to potency and legalities.

Delta 8 is a robust cannabinoid that can offer a lot of wellness support. It is an isomer of CBD and is derived from hemp and CBD. Plus, it is legal as long as the final product does not contain more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC.

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a chemical compound within the Cannabis Sativa Plant. CBD is found in both marijuana and hemp. However, according to the Farm bill, hemp-derived CBD is legal.

This natural substance offers wellness support and comes in many different forms. The most popular form is CBD oil, but you can also buy CBD flowers, edibles, tinctures, and extracts. It contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC and this is what makes it legal across the nation. It does not have psychoactive properties like Delta 8 or Delta 9.

Similarities Between Delta 8 vs CBD

Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids. Both do offer wellness support and have become very popular in the wellness market over the last several years. Also, both of these components are 100% hemp-derived and all-natural. This is where the similarities stop for CBD and Delta 8.

The Difference Between Delta-8 THC and CBD

Chemically speaking CBD and Delta 8 are very different. This is why the similarities are very small. The differences are a bit more balanced. A lot more scientific research has gone into CBD, and there is a vast knowledge of the wellness support that this compound offers.

CBD is non-psychoactive and is widely used for wellness support. Especially by those who are looking for natural support that will not cause them to become “high”. Delta 8 and CBD are very different compounds.

Here is a comparison of the two to help you understand their differences.

Delta-8 THC

  • Form of THC and has some psychoactive properties.
  • Will show up on a drug test.
  • Found in low concentrations.
  • Binds to CB1 receptors and relation to CB2 receptors.

CBD

  • Does not contain psychoactive properties.
  • May show up on a drug test.
  • Found in high concentrations.
  • Binds to CB1 receptors.

Is Delta-8 Legal?

Since Delta 8 contains some psychoactive properties you may be wondering if it is legal. It is federally legal in most states. Some states have laws that have ban this hemp component.

The legalities of hemp all changed when the 2018 Farm Bill was signed. The bill states that all derivatives, isomers, and cannabinoids within hemp are legal as long as the final product contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC.

Be aware that Delta 8 is not legal in all states so you have to make sure you know the laws of your state before placing an order.

The Difference Between Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC

There are many differences between Delta 8 Vs CBD, but you may be wondering how D8 and D9 measure up. These two forms of THC are similar but also have some key differences that you need to understand.

The main difference is their placements. Both forms of THC have a double bond. However, Delta 8 contains the bond on the 8th carbon chain, whereas Delta 9 is on the 9th carbon chain. Aside from the position of the bonds, the Endocannabinoid System’s (ECS) receptors are similar in the way that they react.

They are both forms of Tetrahydrocannabinol and possess psychoactive properties. However, Delta 8 is less potent than Delta 9. Plus, the types of products we sell are 100% hemp-derived. Hemp products are known to have low levels of Delta 9 to be legal.

A lot of people prefer Delta 8 over Delta 9 because it is less potent. Delta 9 works with CB1 receptors. Delta 8 works with CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are primarily within the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs. CB2 receptors are primarily in the immune system.

There are many tissues throughout the body that contain both receptors. Delta 8 just has a chance to work with more areas of the body.

The three main differences between Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC are:

  1. Molecular – Delta 8 sits at the 8th position while Delta 9 sits at the 9th.
  2. Availability – Delta 8 is hemp-derived and federally legal. It is more accessible than Delta-9.
  3. Psychoactive – Both forms of THC are psychoactive but Delta 8 is less potent than Delta-9.

Which Cannabinoid is Right for You?

It all comes down to personal preference and what type of wellness support you are looking for. If you are looking for support without psychoactive properties then you will more than likely want to opt for CBD. If you are looking for a form of THC that is less potent than Delta 9, then Delta 8 may be the better product for you.

Remember, you must always consult with your physician before starting any new substances. They are the only ones who can offer you advice on Delta 8 or CBD products.
