Where Is Delta 8 Available

Where Is Delta 8 Available?

Cannabis has many active compounds and some are becoming well known for the overall balance and support they offer. Delta 8 THC is the new kid in town and is not as well known as Delta 9 THC. Of course, Delta 9 is known for its psychoactive properties and is most commonly associated with marijuana. As long as a product falls under the 0.3% Delta 9 THC threshold it is considered legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. So, Delta 8 THC is hemp-derived and legal in most areas. The question is, where is Delta 8 available? We will discuss this and much more in this blog.

Understanding Delta 8 THC

Most people do not realize that there is more than one type of THC in cannabis but there is. There are more than 100 cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, but the two that seem to get the most attention are Delta 9 THC and CBD.

The acronym THC is widely associated with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. This is the compound that is responsible for the psychoactive properties of marijuana. Delta 9 was the star of the show until CBD came along. CBD offered individuals wellness support with no psychoactive properties. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are six isomers of THC which includes delta 8 THC.

Since the other cannabinoids are not well known, most people are clueless as to where they can purchase them. Delt 8 THC is relatively new but it is making its presence well known. While it bears similarities to Delta 9 it is also very different. It is not as potent and is derived from hemp, which makes it legal.

Delta 8 only occurs in small amounts and is considered a minor cannabinoid. This compound like all other cannabinoids comes from cannabigerol acid (CBGA). CBGA is known as the parent cannabinoid in cannabis. It will undergo synthesis to form THCA and CBDA, which happen to be the precursors to THC and CBD.

Once the plant is harvested it is exposed to UV light, heat, and will go through an aging process. The THCA will then decarboxylate to form delta 9 THC. Delta 9 is not a stable molecule, and it will transform into Delta 8 through oxidation.

This molecule is stable and will not be altered when it is exposed to air, which gives it a longer shelf-life. So, Delta 8 is an isomer of Delta 9. This will explain why the two are similar when it comes to their chemistry. Both of these cannabinoids have a double bond that is expressed as Delta. The biggest difference is the position of the bond in their molecular structure.

Delta 8 THC would contain a double bond on the 8th carbon atom, while Delta 9 THC would occur on the 9th carbon. While it is only one atom apart Delta 8 provides fewer psychoactive properties and it is legal in most areas across the United States.

However, you should be advised that you are responsible for knowing if the products being offered are of high quality. Here are a few tips to help you find a reputable vendor.

  1. What types of products are listed on the website? If they only sell Delta 8 chances are you are getting a better quality product because that is what they concentrate on. If they are offering Delta 8 along with several other products that do not pertain to hemp, then you may want to consider looking somewhere else for your Delta 8 products.
  2. Read reviews on third-party sites like Google, Yelp, and Trustpilot. This will give you an idea about the quality of their products and the customer service that they provide.
  3. Lab testing is another big factor. You want to make sure that your vendor offers third-party lab testing on all of their products so you can ensure you are purchasing products that are safe to use. This will provide proof of the quality of their products. They should test for pesticides and heavy metals, and also have a list of other things they test for.

Is Delta 8 Legal?
